Black cumin oil reduces inflammation quickly

Last Updated: 28 October, 2025By

Black cumin, Nigella sativa, is an amazing plant whose seed oil has been used for thousands of years – as food, skin care and natural medicine. Called the ‘oil that cures all but death’ in ancient Egypt and Arab countries, modern research confirms what people have known for millennia: black cumin oil is a powerful natural medicine with broad health benefits.

It has strong anti-inflammatory, blood sugar regulating and immune boosting properties.
A recent double-blind, placebo-controlled study showed that black cumin seed oil was able to reduce inflammation levels by 45% in just a few weeks – a result that few natural remedies can match.

But the benefits don’t stop there. Black cumin oil has a positive impact on metabolism, gut health, brain and hormones. It can:

  1. Supporting fat burning and weight balance
  2. Promoting fertility and hormonal health
  3. Improve gut flora and digestion – reduces stomach pain, cramps, gas and swelling
  4. Promotes skin and hair growth
  5. Protecting the brain against oxidative stress
  6. Strengthen the immune system and increase the body’s resilience
  7. Improves the quality of breast milk and soothes baby’s digestion

It is truly a multifunctional, healing and revitalizing oil that can make a big difference in everyday life.

Studies have shown positive effects of black cumin seed oil in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, diabetes and chronic inflammation.

The plant behind the oil

It’s almost magical that the delicate flower can hide such powerful seeds.
Black cumin is an annual plant with white or blue-violet flowers belonging to the buttercup family.
It grows wild in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and has been cultivated for over 3 300 years. Nigella sativa seeds were even found in Tutankhamun’s tomb, and they are mentioned in the Bible, the Koran and in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Its long history of use, combined with modern research, makes black cumin a unique bridge between ancient wisdom and modern science – one of nature’s most proven medicines.

Black cumin oil – the ancient healing oil with modern scientific evidence

An extensive scientific review shows that Nigella sativa has documented biological effects such as:

  • anti-inflammatory
  • antioxidant
  • expectorant so good for allergies and sinusitis
  • provides effective fat burning
  • anti-diabetic – provides blood sugar balance
  • antihypertensive
  • antibacterial
  • cholesterol lowering
  • wound healing and immunomodulatory

The black seeds have antioxidant properties that can reduce inflammation both in the body and on the skin and mucous membranes. Biological and pharmacological effects are attributed to its two important constituents Tymoquinone (TQ) and the black cumin oil.

The seeds contain many other active substances (see picture below), several of which are also found in the effective oregano oil. There are 2,500 scientific studies published on Nigella sativa (on PubMed)

Black cumin oil has the following proven health benefits:

The seed oil may also be helpful in ulcerative colitis, as research has shown that black cumin seed oil reduced the pro-inflammatory cytokines, lactate dehydrogenase, triglycerides and cholesterol that increase in colitis. It promotes a healthy gut flora, as shown in a study on chickens fed a diet consisting of black cumin seed meal and coconut flour. It provided good growth performance and gut health, with inhibitory effect against pathogenic microbes and improvement of gut flora diversity.

Active substance thymokinin

Black seed oil can reduce inflammation by 45% in a few weeks, according to a new randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. In clinical trials, black cumin seed oil improved outcomes in asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension and type 2 diabetes – all conditions rooted in chronic inflammation and oxidative stress.

NEW: Thymoquinone crosses the blood-brain barrier, activating the brain’s own antioxidant system and activating genes that protect against cell death.
This is not symptom relief – it is a treatment of the root cause.

The active substance thymoquinone has been shown to

  • Lowering inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6 and CRP – restoring immune balance
  • Protect mitochondria from oxidative stress – preserve cell energy
  • Improving neurogenesis and reducing neuroinflammation – giving hope for Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s
  • Supporting insulin sensitivity – and protecting against metabolic syndrome
  • Increase NK cell activity – and strengthen the body’s first line of defense

Boosting the gut

I found that taking just one more tsp of black cumin oil the day before the Alkaline Flush really sped up the flush – and a lot more came out too! Probably because it triggers digestion and bowel movements by stimulating the secretion of gastric juices, acids and bile. It also reduces mucus formation, which impairs bowel movements. Black cumin oil is available in health food stores and online, preferably organic!

Dr. Sanna Protocol:

  1. In the evening I swallowed 1 tsp of black cumin oil (or 2 two capsules) with glass of water.
  2. In the morning I did Alkaline flush: 1 tsp bicarbonate and 1 tsp MgOxide in glass of water, drink glass of water after that. (Read about the Alkaline Flush in the gravel course Sannas Saltflushen here!)
  3. Within half an hour the bowel emptied, and it has never happened so fast! And it emptied a lot and many times. I have done Alkaline Flush many times but never experienced anything like this! It emptied so well that I got a little carried away… or maybe it was due to the parasites going out.
  4. You can also take some black cumin oil rectally the night before, preferably in a capsule and is available e.g. Danish Naturdrogeriet. Taking black cumin oil capsules rectally every night for at least five days removed the hemorrhoids for me (and others I shared the method with).

.

I asked the trained Fasting Therapists to test and give feedback:

1. “Since I’m pita, it usually goes relatively quickly anyway in the morning. But today I got a bigger emptying first and two more. So definitely it was more cleansed. Protocol the night before: 1 tsp black cumin oil orally, 1 capsule which I filled completely and took rectally. In the morning: 1 tsp each of bicarbonate of soda, magnesium oxide and vitamin C in a glass of water and drank more water then.”

2.”I have tried on two occasions, works great! Last time I didn’t need an alkaline flush in the morning, emptied a lot anyway with only three capsules that I swallowed the night before bedtime and one capsule rectally.”

3. “My body loves the black cumin oil, I take two capsules every morning (1 tsp) and the stools are plentiful but not messy.”

4. “I put two capsules in my mouth and one in the back and did the salt flush the following morning, and it was all out in half an hour after it started draining! I have done several before so know to compare.” Express Saltflush that is!

Tip for easy fast bowel emptying: Take a teaspoon of black cumin oil and 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt in a cup of hot water and drink in the morning!
